British supermarket Tesco is to sell engagement rings and wedding rings for just £15 it has been announced.
The engagement ring is a simple affair that features a band made of gold-plated silver and zirconia stones.
Meanwhile, the wedding ring weighs 0.55g and is made from nine-carat gold.
A spokesman for the supermarket told the Daily Mail: “With gold prices rocketing – they reached £860 per ounce in June – we have found an affordable alternative to help recession-hit Brits get engaged in style.
“Most people – other than jewellery experts – would not be able to spot the difference between a gold-plated silver ring with cubic zirconia and a diamond solitaire ring.”
The engagement ring will sell for £15, while the wedding ring will cost an extra £15.
Zirconia has been used by jewellery makers as a cheap alternative for diamonds for over 30 years now.
The substance, which is colourless and hard, is the crystal form of zirconium dioxide.
It is often sold on shopping channels and sometimes referred to as diamonique.
Tesco has become a massive retail giant in recent years and now sells mobile phones, DVDs and CDs and various clothing and jewellery items, along with the usual food and drink.
Michael Buble has confirmed his engagement to Argentine actress Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre by showing off his engagement ring while on tour.
The singer was photographed wearing an engagement ring as he boarded his tour bus in Toronto, Canada.
It is a new trend for men to wear engagement rings along with their fiance.
However, Buble has explained that his decision is nothing to do with fashion, but because it is the custom in his wife’s home country.
He explained: “The boy also wears the engagement ring (in Argentina). That’s what she tells me anyway.”
Buble has also spoken of his future plans with de la Torre – including kids.
“I came up with some hypothetical names and I didn’t like the names, but she came up with Bella Buble.
“I swear to god, she kept coming up with these names, and she kept saying: ‘Bella [or] I like Edward. I think she wants me to name the kids after the Twilight characters, which is not going to happen.”
Buble was previously engaged to stage actress, dancer and singer Debbie Timuss, but their relationship came to an end in November 2005.
He previously dated British actress Emily Blunt before meeting Luisana Lopilato in November 2009.

Clancey is currently working on TV series Great British Hairdresser, but refused to let her personal strife impact upon her professional life.
The source continued: “She tried to put a brave face on things and got through the day as best as she could like a professional but you could see she was in pieces from the news.
“Abbey doesn’t know what to think and feels really hurt.”
They said it wouldn’t last, but Khloe Kardashian is determined to prove her critics wrong and has vowed to make her marriage to Lamar Odom work.
The reality TV star swapped engagement rings for wedding rings last year after knowing LA Lakers forward Odom for just a few short weeks, leading many celebrity pundits, bloggers and commentators to doubt the relationship’s strength.

Referring to the two-decade marriage of her parents, US athlete Bruce Jenner and Kris Jenner, Khloe told celebrity site RadarOnline: “Bruce and my mom have been married for 20 years – I’m going to get to 50!

Wonder Woman and Batman were sporting wedding rings last week as a couple from Devon tied the knot while dressed as the iconic superheroes.
Fancy dress fans Sharon and Neil Vaughan weren’t the only ones to take on alter egos though; all the guests attending the big day had to get into the spirit of things.
Batman’s sidekick Robin was entrusted with the wedding rings as he was the best man, arch nemesis The Joker was the master of ceremonies and the Powerpuff Girls were the bridesmaids.
All the guests at their wedding were also decked out in superhero garb, with the likes of Wolverine, Mr Incredible and Captain America filling the seats.
Other guests included Supergirl, Iron Man and Star Wars’ Jedi Master Yoda.
“Our wedding was absolutely amazing and it cost us less than some couples would spend on just the dress,” said the bride.
“We were not allowed to see each other’s costumes before the big day, but when I did see Neil he looked fantastic as Batman.
“We put a lot of effort into our costumes and our guests did as well. It was such a great day.”
Simon Neil, frontman of Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, has spoken of his relief at finding the wedding ring he lost during a video shoot.
The singer misplaced the ring while filming the promo for forthcoming single God and Satan on location.
After a frantic search involving a high-tech metal detector, the band was found and returned to its owner.
Neil said: “It got lost in the bottom of a lake and they never thought they’d find it, and they found it. They got a metal detector thing that floats along the surface of the bottom of the lake, and the guy found it.
“There’s a great picture of him coming out of the water, it’s like Lord Of The Rings, the hand comes first with the ring.
“I was probably 10 per cent less happy than my wife was. I was over the moon but she was equally as over the moon if not 10 per cent extra.”
Neil married wife Francesca in 2008. His band’s albums include 2003’s The Vertigo of Bliss, 2007’s Puzzle and Only Revolutions, which was released last year.
They are also active on the festival circuit this summer, headlining T in the Park, Oxegen and Reading and Leeds amongst others.
